Oregon Summer Fishing Options

Fishing opportunities abound in Oregon and summer for sure is an action packed time of year near Portland!  Here is a breif break down of fly fishing options for summer here in the great Northwest.

Summer Steelhead:   In less time than you can cruise through an IKEA you can leave Portlland proper and be on excellent steelhead water on the Clackamas River.  Over 80 miles long the Clackamas is a year round steelhead river which comes off the shoulder of Mt. Hood. Clackamas river steelhead are found in nearly all months of the year.  Summer fish are available from early June through November.  Here we swing flies for aggressive fish that average 6-15lbs.

Deschutes Trout Fishing:  Summer caddis hatches and mayflies are on the menu for native redband trout on Oregon’s favorite trout stream.  White water rafting and fly fishing are top of the menu for visitors to this prolific trout zone just 2 hours east of Portland.

Smallmouth Bass Fishing:  One of the best options for action packed fly fishing is for smallmouth bass.  In less than 1 hour from Portland anglers find aggressive hard fighting smallmouth in good numbers.  Both surface and subsurface action can be excellent for some of the biggest river bass in the state.
