About Dave Hughes: “Dave is a truly gifted, witty, and prolific writer, fly tier, and fly fisher. Any time spent with Dave is fortunate indeed. “ DAVE WHITLOCK
Dave is author of more than 25 books. His subject is fly fishing for trout. He’s best known for writing instructional works that are clear, highly informative, and at the same time fun to read. It’s pretty rare in the fishing book world that you get to learn lots that will help you catch more trout, and also get a kick out of the normally onerous operation of learning it. Books include Western Hatches (with Rick Hafele), Handbook of Hatches, Reading Trout Water, Wet Flies, Essential Trout Flies, Nymphs for Streams and Stillwaters, and Trout Flies. His latest books are Pocketguide to Western Hatches (published in 2012) and Trout From Small Streams (2014) and Wet Flies second edition (2015). Dave’s articles have appeared in Gray’s Sporting Journal, Field & Stream, Fly Fishing the West, and Fly Fisherman. He is currently ‘Practical & Useful’ columnist for Fly Rod & Reel and ‘Riddles of the Hatch’ columnist for Flyfishing & Tying Journal magazines.
