CANCELLATIONS: Please note that class payment is non-refundable. If you must miss your scheduled class please contact us ahead of time – if we can reschedule you for another class session we will. As these classes are scheduled during the winter timeframe weather can be an issue. We run these sessions rain or shine as long as we determine the river is in a fishable condition. If we determine the water is unfishable we will either reschedule or refund your class fees.

Intro to Fly Fishing
Begin your fly fishing hobby with the right fundamentals and a lot of fun! This class is geared specifically to learning to fly fish on the famous Deschutes River. It’s a great course for the beginner, a fantastic gift idea, or simply a lot of fun for the entire family. Held on the banks of the world famous Deschutes River near Maupin, Oregon. The Deschutes is Oregon’s premier blue ribbon trout river.
Here we give hands on instruction covering how to rig, fly cast, on-water bug study, what fish eat, fly fishing techniques and on-water fishing for trout. A get-started class information packet is included. After we cover the how and why of what we are doing – we actually fish and coach you towards fly fishing success!
For this 8-hour course, rods and reels are provided if needed or you may bring your own. You bring your waders, boots, fishing license, polarized glasses, lucky fishing hat and lunch. Only 6 spots available for each class. They fill fast; save your spot today!

This comprehensive introduction to will get you headed in the right direction with a solid foundation of the key fly fishing theories and practices to make your time on the water most productive.
In this 2-1/2 hour session, noted instructor Marc Williamson will teach you everything you need to get started: the gear you need, the basics of rod, reel and line, the terminology most often used, knot-tying, and selection and use of leaders and tippets.
We will discuss fly patterns and their entomological equivalents (aquatic insects and terrestrials).
In the end you will have a solid understanding of the basics of trout behavior, the waters in which they live, and what they eat at different times during the day. We are certain you will leave with the building blocks necessary to fulfill your interest in fly fishing!

The first segment of the class is held in the classroom at Royal Treatment Fly shop in West Linn, Oregon. From there we will wet some lines on a private lake with healthy populations of rainbow trout. Get started fly fishing the right way or just advance your skills on some trophy trout waters.
